Q: How do I use these? Am I right they just stay in the last packet?

Yes. Take out one sachet from the plastic packet; each sachet has paper on one side and clear view of the silicone beads on the other. Place the sachet with the paper side facing away from the surface you’re leaving it on ie facing upwards if you’re lying it down, or outwards if leaning against a side wall (as I did in the food cupboard). You’ll see the sachet fill up with water as damp air is sucked up by the silicone. It only needs to be replaced when it’s full of water.

Q: How thick are these please?

Hi, they are not very thick at all, maybe 5mm when new. When they are “full” (when they have absorbed water and all the balls/crystals have turned to gel) it’s maybe 1cm thick. They seem very good, helped damp wardrobe problem

Q: Would this product placed on top of a mattress and covered with a towel absorb the moisture from a damp mattress?

Yes. They will absorb moisture from anything but they wouldn't work very quickly to dry something like a mattress. I use them to help with damp under a small cupboard and they are great for that. Over about 3 weeks one would absorb about half a pint of water. It would probably take as long to get that much water out of a mattress. I would think standing the mattress in a dry airy area stood up on its end would be quicker if you had the time or space.
