Decent (with some caveats)
Some drawbacks:* no IP rating so can’t use in kitchen or bathroom* in the routines/automations there is no “restart” step. You have to add a “power off” step, then a pause, then a “power on” step. If you’re buying this plug to schedule a restart for your router/modem, this flow doesn’t work because “power on” doesn’t execute without internet access.* the plug’s idle power consumption is 1.64 W when off and 0.64 W when off. It’s not huge but seems inefficiently designed.* no WiFi 5 (802.11ac) or WiFi 6 (802.22ax) supportOther than that, fairly good build quality and mature app. Power tracking is a good-to-have feature.

Loved this product, energy monitoring is very good.
I absolutely loved the Tapo Smart Plug! One of its standout features is the energy monitoring, which is incredibly useful. You can configure the electricity unit cost, and based on that, it calculates how much money’s worth of electricity you’ve used—an excellent feature for tracking energy consumption and saving costs.Another great advantage is its compatibility with Samsung SmartThings. If you’re a Samsung user, you can seamlessly integrate it with SmartThings, allowing you to monitor energy usage directly from the app. The remote control and scheduling features work flawlessly, making home automation super convenient.Overall, the Tapo Smart Plug is a fantastic investment for anyone looking to automate appliances, monitor energy usage, and optimize electricity consumption. Highly recommended!

Works flawlessly
I tried this smartplug after using a couple of smartplugs from other brands. A couple of months in and this does not glitch out ever (other smartplugs often lose connection and need a restart, looking at you Wipro). It is easy to setup, use, app is good and feature rich.

Great smart device but poor life with high powered devices
Just bought to enter into the world of smart home gadgets and found it pretty good. I use it to connect my 1.5 tonne old window AC and is very happy to get a glimpse of energy consumed by the device.Setup was smooth and hassle free. The great thing is the device can be put in and off from outside the home through internet. The precondition is it must remain connected to TPLINK cloud service through the wifi home network.Great device but costly though.Edit : 10.06.25 : Reduced 2 stars as the item burnt out within less than a month of regular use.The Amazon guys were very helpful and arranged full refund.Reduced 2 stars only despite the item failing within a month, as conceptually the product is good, all the features advertised worked well before burning out. TP-Link needs to improve the plastic/ poly carbonate body as it is not upto the mark. This device was used with my 12 year old 1.5 Ton Samsung window AC and 12 year old North-West socket. It was put on top of the 230V AC socket and then the Samsung AC 3 Pin Plug Top was inserted in this smart device. The original North West socket is still working but this device broke down due to heat.I found it is unsuitable for high current consuming device. My AC consumes around 2200 watt during peak working. Hopefully, it will work well with low powered devices.
