Been a Seagate user for over 20 years and these drives are wonderful.

Unlike many others here, I am running an UNRAID server rather than a Synology or QNAP NAS. Perhaps that's why my mileage has varied, such that I have had no failures whatsoever and my server is 100% uptime.I am running (2) 24TB Ironwolf Pro for parity, (8) 12TB Ironwolf Pro for the array and (3) 4TB Samsung EVO NVMe for the cache pools. This all runs on an Intel i9 14th Gen Processor, Gigabyte Aorus Elite motherboard, 128GB Ram and 16-Bay Tower. My workload consists of 24/7 reads and writes including, at times, up to a simultaneous 6-8 4K video streams. The drives never spin down and are active 100% of the time.I've been running this setup for a little over a year now and have had not a single error with parity checks running twice a month and SMART monitoring 24/7. With that said, I think a lot of what makes a drive last is the hardware connected to it and the workload associated with it. I don't expect these to last forever, though. I've been using Seagate drives for over 20 years and I can usually expect 5-8 years before they fail (with constant use). All in all, I'm very happy with these drives and carry very high expectations for the future.

Love how easy it is to find AI detection events

Got my security camera system up and running love the responsiveness now I get to trackmy cats, mice, and other critters while scrolling though my video feeds! Better than national geographic because you can fast forward without too much buffering, maybe my system, but I think this dive is contributing to this at least a little bit. The system i put this drive in claims it can store one events only HD feed and three 4k feeds continuously for about 150 days which i think seems to be good use of 20 TB.

works flawlessly...wow..way better than buying and learning a new system

just put this 4tb sata hardrive into my lorex DVR instead of buying a new lorex DVR and learning a whole ton of bothersome new ways to operate the new dvr. best decision i have made. the instructions on my old lorex dvr said it can take up to a 6tb hardrive. but i did not want to spend that much. anyway my old hard drive was 1tb and with 8 cams it could record continuously for only 3 days. but with this new 4tb hardrive it can record continuously for11 days with 8 cams. so i am really happy with it. it also was a piece of cake to open the hard dr and remove the old hd and put in the new one. fired right up same passwords etc. great buy and saved a ton. i think soon i will buy a spare 6tb sata harddrive to keep on hand. my old 1tb was supposed to last up to 5 years but it lasted 10, way longer than it was supposed to last...so this new one will be about permanent, unless i just decide to increase its capacity to 6tb.

Reliable drive

As a Mac user with the inability to upgrade my storage, I had to resort to an external drive. So, I bought the 8TB and a generic USB housing. This is not the fastest drive out there, but I am using it in an external housing, so it would be bottlenecked by the USB connector anyway. However, it is reliable as can be thus far, having had an uptime of 3704 hours as I type this. I use it for storing my movies for my Plex collection as well as all the various documents generated by my job. One piece of advice - if you plan on using between your Mac and PC, format this drive as exFAT. I recommend this drive any time, any day.

Caveat Emptor, expired goods

I have purchased 3 of the Seagate Barracuda drives in the past 2 years, to replace much older (think 10+ years) Seagate drives I use as network storage. So far, they have been reliable, with no early failures. However...My most recent purchase from Amazon, in April 2025, was for an 8TB Barracuda that was manufactured in August 2020. It came in a plain brown box, unlike my other two that had the normal green and black Seagate labeling. Some of the info on the box had been re-labeled with a sticker. It seemed off, so I checked the serial number on the Seagate Warranty page. It came back with "Check with the seller, this was sold as part of a larger system". Hmmm...I got into a chat with a Seagate CS agent, who informed me that particular drive shipped in September 2020 and its warranty had expired in December 2022. I can only imagine the nightmare that would've been involved if I ran into an issue with this drive. I'm not sure if this drive had an adventure before finding its way to me (the "Old sold as new" issue I've read a lot about lately) or if it was just sitting on a shelf gathering dust for more than 5 years, but since it had no warranty according to the manufacturer, back it went. I've included photos of the typical Seagate packaging vs. what I got with this last order.

Reliable cheap storage runs better than advertised

Found on sale sub-$75 range and chose it over competition. The read/write speeds are better than expected for a 5400 RPM HDD; it took around an hour to back up about 500 GB of data on an AM5 starter platform PC running 32 GB DDR5 6000 Mt/s RAM. I was transferring from a fast gen 4 NVME SSD (runs about 7400/6400 Mbps read/write speed). Thanks for the freedom of never having to download my huge games again!!!

Rugged and reliable at a great price

Yes, we are all goingto digital drives, but if you want a lot of storage space that you know will be safe, go with this HDDD. I have used this well over a year now with no issues and the power consumption and speed is not that much less than a budget SDD. To prevent data loss, I recommend having at least one of these as part of your system.

Good drive

Used for a bare metal install as \home partition using a linux distribution in a new to me desktop. As a personal preference I rather have to much storage vs not having enough. So far has worked well. This didn't go into a gaming rig, or something that is going to be placing large demands on it so I expect that it will be something that I can roll over when I upgrade to a higher performance system. Would recommend.
