QNAP TS-130 1-Bay Home NAS with One 1GbE Port

When I first unboxed the QNAP TS-130, I was ready to send it straight back. As a DevOps engineer with several years of experience, I expected flexibility, stability, and solid performance. Instead, I got a limited, clunky interface, unpredictable behavior, and some seriously strange bugs. The first few days were painful — attempts to integrate with Cloudflare, use the console, and experiment with advanced features all ended in chaos. At one point, it even wiped all volumes with zero warning. I was furious.But then, in hindsight (and after some self-reflection), I realized something simple: this is just a smart network drive for $80. It's not built for custom setups, Docker containers, or any serious tinkering. It's not a playground — it's a place to store files, and in that role, it actually shines.Once I stopped trying to make it something it's not, it just… worked. I connected it, tossed in my photos, documents, and media, and accessed everything wirelessly without much hassle. It's quiet, compact, and looks great on a shelf. If you treat it like a basic, wireless file vault and not a full-fledged NAS server, it suddenly makes a lot more sense.Pro tip: don’t open the console. Don’t try to run experiments or stretch its capabilities. That’s not what it’s made for. Just unbox it, plug it in, and use it for simple file storage. For that purpose, it’s actually a pretty great little device.At the end of the day, the TS-130 isn't trying to be a powerhouse — and that's okay. It's a budget-friendly, stylish little box that, when treated for what it is, performs its job reliably. If you approach it with the right expectations — simple, wireless file storage with no frills — it can actually be a pleasant surprise.

This review is for the TS-130. I have a very specific use case and this was the only product I could find that seemed like it would work for me at this price point.. I use it as an on premises back-up of my cloud storage. The QNAP user guide that in the box is incomplete and assumes that you want to connect your drive to the cloud and use their phone app. I found the interface far too cute and cumbersome. I had to do a google search to find out how to map the drive to Windows. QNAP assumes that you want to do everything in the browser based interface. There are other tools, but you have to dig for them.The drive housing seems to be a high quality build. The 4TB Seagate Iron wolf fit perfectly and came to life right out of the box. The cooling fan speed is configurable and is very quiet. I think this will be a good purchase. It's been 1 day, but it's be a lot of data moving and verification. Zero issues once I got it mapped. Time will tell. If it dies early, I will update this review. This is my 4th NAS drive, I only count on them lasting or being supported for 3 years.

Would like to have been able to use this little NAS as it would have most likely been perfect for my use in a small home environment and only used to backup files on the network. It would have replaced my aged WD Cloud NAS that is no longer supported by Western Digital.Unfortunately I was unable to configure the Ethernet Interface for DHCP. It simply refused to get an IP Address from my router. The NAS software was pretty simple to use for this configuration and indicated that everything had been saved but just as quick as I tried to renew the address the interface would revert back to the system default IP Address. I could configure the interface for a fixed IP Address on my network and was able to access the webpage using that address however the system kept complaining that my DNS Server could not resolve hosts and other errors that I can't recall.I plugged a TP-Link TL-WDN3200 USB wifi module into the USB2 port on the NAS and was able to configure it for SSID and Password and it connected to my router and got an IP Address via DHCP.I returned the NAS to Amazon along with the 4TB hard drive purchased to install in the NAS as it was no longer needed.I did contact QNAP support but did not feel like waiting on their response as it seemed to be a lost cause hardware wise and enough time had been wasted trying to get it working.

I was looking for a simple easy to setup NAS system. i watched a ton of reviews. I was shown this QNAP TS-130, as my job used to be in IT, i'd used the QNAP systems before. I used to run a QNAP TS-462 unit. The QNAP name i trust, so i bought a cheap ts-130. I love it.+easy to setup+small unit+hard drive installation 4 minutes<tops>+reasonably pricedonly negative thing is it has got a single 1gig rj-45 connection. this fact, i knew before i bought it. Slightly slower upload and download, but does what it needs to do. Cute colored too.If you need a NAS that is low cost, easy to use, don't mind it being a bit slower. This is perfect. highly recommend this unit.

Very hard to set up and use. Very slow. Very non intuitive with the website that you use to interact with it. Im sending it back. Im getting another WD mycloud.

The QNAP TS-130 arrived quickly and set up just a quick. I purchased this for my best friend so he could have storage and access to his video projects he does. I set it up at my house and transferred perfectly to his network and was easily accessible. Great little NAS.

It would be a great NAS if it didn't die on day 31. I tried to get a replacement through Amazon, but I was a day late then contacted QNAP online support, and after a week of back and forth of me telling them the same thing they finally said to send it back to them and they would look at it, then when I asked where to drop it off they said the location should be on the printout but it was just where it should be sent not the company to ship with. They ended up wanting me to pay for shipping for a device that stopped working after a month. Completely unexpectable.
