This is the second Amcrest webcam I have purchased and the fourth video product from Amcrest. This AWC2198 was a simple plug and play on my Windows 11 home-built 11th gen i5 computer. I primarily use the webcam video and microphone for zoom calls. Both perform well for my application. I have the webcam sitting on top of my monitor. The monitor and webcam are sitting in a corner on a large desk. This may be part of the reason why the microphone is not as clear as my previous webcam? But I am very happy with the great video quality and good sound quality at this price point.Pros*The video is clear and auto adjusts based on the lighting in the room.*The microphone picks up my voice without any issues.*It was a simple plug and play. I didn't find it necessary to adjust any settings so far.*Great performance at a great price. I have found my Amcrest products to work well and be reliable.Possible improvements*The microphone on this webcam seems a little more "boomy". Not as crisp and clear as my previous product. Probably related to how directional the microphone is. With two microphones and trying to cover the 90-degree video coverage the microphone may not be as directional as my previous product. This can be good so that it covers a room. In my case I have the webcam sitting in the corner of a room so this may account for the sound being less crisp.*The blue light indicating the video is active is very difficult to see.*The webcam is sitting on top of my monitor. I can adjust the up and down angle appropriately with the webcam's clip, but it is just sitting there. Not terribly secure. No problems so far. Just an opinion and comment.*I did have to put the provided shutter on myself. Previous cameras had the shutter built into the webcam. Not a big deal. Allows one to choose not to install the shutter. But since I use it, it seems a little cheesy to stick it on myself.

I would like to start the review by saying that the Amcrest 1080p webcam is packaged well. The retail packaging has enough material to prevent damage while shipping.The webcam comes with a movable base which can be adjusted based on the mounting preference of the user. I mainly used the webcam for conference type calls so I mounted it on top of my monitor. The movable arm can be adjusted based on the thickness of the monitor or laptop screen. The webcam can also be rotated. When the arm is folded there is a tripod mounting hole in case that is also needed. I have not provided a picture of it but other users have already posted that in their review.The webcam also comes with an optional privacy cover that mounts to the webcam by using double-sided adhesive.In terms of video, this webcam performs well for the price. The rated resolution at 1080p 30fps is adequate for regular video calls or conference calls. I have used it for interviews and it worked well for me. The only issue I have seen it that there is a fish-eye effect around the edges but its not that bad. This video quality is way better than any laptop camera I have ever used. I have also been able to use the webcam in both light and dark environments as long as the monitor provided some lighting.The mic on this webcam has worked on every application I have used it on. I have used it on Facebook messenger, Skype, and Discord. I have tested it with friends, family, and co-workers and none of them had a problem hearing me. The only issue I encountered was that the microphone was muted when I plugged in the webcam. I found that this was an issue with Windows 10 and not the webcam as it has happened to me with a different product in the past.I recommend running the Windows troubleshooter for the microphone if any issues are presented.Overall the webcam was easy to install. It is plug and play as the description states and performs to my expectations for the price point. I would recommend this webcam for users needing a basic webcam for video calls.

AMCREST AWC2198There are quite a few 1080p webcams available. The Amcrest AWC2198 stands out with dual microphones and a robust mount.Packaged very well; strong cardboard and dense foam to protect the webcam.No mention of privacy cover in the instructions or on the box. A privacy cover is included that uses double sided tape to install. I did not install or use the privacy cover. I think the privacy cover should be part of the product and mentioned in the instructions, not just in the Amazon product description.I first used the webcam on my 3D printer to monitor print jobs. The software runs on Linux; it was plug and play; plugged it in and enabled it in the software and ready to go. Focus could be better up close, but 15 to 18 inches from the printer bed focus was spot on and the stream was steady with no pauses or hickups.I then used the webcam for Teams. The computer was Windows 11 and it was plug and play. It showed in Teams and using the preview the angle was set and stayed consistent during usage. Participants in Teams noted sound on their end was different than when using my headset microphone: not worse or better, just different. After some usage time, and optimizing camera location, the sound was better than the headset microphone.Overall, I would give the Amcrest AWC2198 an 8 out of 10 rating. Picture rating of 9 of 10; sound rating of 8 of 10; instructions rating of 7 of 10 (because of the privacy cover).It just worked and did a great job without any setup or hassle. Recommended.
