I have always been a fan of VZ grips. The styling and function have been great. But when I saw this style, color and additional hardware, it looked like a better value.I have an Ed Brown Kobra Carry 1911 4.25" Commander with a bobtail grip. But with rosewood panels, I was longing for more control and comfort. First of all, these fit my 1911 perfectly. The thickness is the same as my wooden grips. It is cut out for my ambidextrous safeties. The coverage is identical to my old grip panels.The smoothed out thumb rests are perfect. That was something missing. The pattern of the grips are perfect for more control and retention. So for functionality, these are perfect. For a similar style set of VZ grips, these are indistinguishable. The control, confidence and stability in grips made me on par with my Ed Brown Special Forces 1911.To achieve the same look as my original grips, I chose red and black. It made for a better combination.What makes this set go above and beyond are the tools and hardware for an added stylish touch. There are rubber O-rings for each screw. These are great for screw retention. The torch tool is provided.The style of the screws are equally and aesthetically pleasing. They truly change the look.I included pics of the original grips and the new ones.I can't be happier with this set. Definitely two thumbs up.UPDATEI acquired a Colt Government Series 80 1911 on a trade. Because of the affordable price I acquired a set. The grip screws and the quality of the grips made me very satisfied with my purchase, again.

Incredible value! Less than half the price of it's competition and Cool Hand's come with very nice grip screws, "o" rings and torx driver. I was quite skeptical for the price point. DON'T BE!I've put them on an STI Spartan, full size 1911 in 9mm, matte black, and they fit perfect along with the supplied screws. I did not need the "o" rings. I suggest looking inside your grip to see if they protrude into the mag well before installing the magazine. No worries on mine.This pistol does not have an ambi safety so I cannot speak about it's fit/function. My safety works perfectly.Fit, finish, color (red/black) and craftsmanship is outstanding. I will warn the novice that IMO, these grips are quite aggressive and will hold your pistol rock solid when shooting in most any conditions.The thickness feels the same as my stock grips.A word of caution for the unsuspecting. Be sure and check your grip bushings if your pistol is an import. I have one (GSG 1911, .22 cal, full size) that I learned a VALUABLE lesson on. Since it was imported, they used metric grip bushings and screws. If you attempt to put SAE grip screws into a metric grip bushing, you'll ruin them...and it's EXTREMELY hard to find metric bushings and screws to replace. I had to buy new SAE oversized bushings and screws along with a SAE tap to repair the pistol. Quite a costly mistake on my part.

I bought a set of these grips to replace some basic black plastic ones that came from the manufacturer. These grips fit well and look great. They provide pretty good grip, but I think the "Ops" pattern may be superior. I added grip tape to the front strap, and got a checkered mainspring housing with magwell, so ended up returning these and getting the same pattern with the magwell cut.Ordering directly from Cool Hands is the most economical. I like these grips so much that I actually think twice before buying something they don't make grips for. Only really relevant to metal frame hammer fired models.

Obviously, these are 'inspired' by VZ grips, as are most other G10 grips these days. If not being the original innovator of the concept will bother you, these are obviously not for you.I found them cleanly machined, dead flat on back for neat mounting and a perfect fit for the Kimber I'm using them on. The included screws and o-rings are even of good quality, as is the Torx wrench they included.I prefer grips with an aggressive texture, but since these were for concealed carry, I purposely chose a pattern that wasn't as aggressive as one I'd use on a range or competition gun; these starburst grips fit that bill well, and are suitably 'grippy' without being too abrasive on clothing. Good product, will likely be my first choice for grips going forward.

The grips were priced nicely, color and pattern as pictured and described, and fit both my Kimber Classic and Colt Commander perfectly. The surface texture was a bit sharp and a little uneven (where texturing was drilled/incised in there were high points in a few spots and uneven tips around the bottom edge, for example), but easily cleaned up. They are cool to the touch and a little sharp to grip tightly barehanded, but not uncomfortably so. They will stay on my Commander as they provide a better grip with a lighter gun, and look better with the shorter barrel (not sure why, just personal aesthetics).

I received my set of Cool Hand 1911 grips with one of the four screws not machined with the torq in the head, (it was machined smooth) so it was impossible to tighten down. I sent off an e-mail to Cool Hand requesting instructions pertaining to them sending out new screws or if I should just return them to Amazon, by 7:30 PM the same night Cool Hand had sent a reply and wanted my Amazon order number and my address info. A couple of days later I received a new set of screws, o-rings and a wrench to tighten them down in the mail! What a great company to deal with, especially with all the poor customer service now days, one email and I was done! The grips fit perfect on my 1911 with no fitting and look and feel great.
