I Just Want to Do It My Way! My Story about Staying on Task and Asking for Help (Best Me I Can Be!)

Perfect for those kids who "dance to the beat of their own drummer' - for better and for worse!
Fun book to help kids 9 and under - it shows them how sometimes they can do things their own way and sometimes they need to do what the adults (teachers and parents) tell them too. In this story the boy has missing/ half done assignments and he figures out he has to focus, not get distracted, and speak up for himself when he doesn't understand. All done in a fun, relatable, positive way. As a teacher and a parent too - it's a hard thing to sell, but this book is PERFECT for it.

Great Tool to open up Discussions on Behavior
I have a 5 year old son with ADHD and he has always insisted on doing things "his way". He enjoys reading this book (and others by this Author) and he learns something about actions and how they affect others at the same time. I find this book helpful in showing him the issues with doing things "my way". He also LOVES the title... because he relates to it!

Julia Cook does a great job guiding to kids to better understand that life doesn't always go their way. I appreciate the parent and teacher tips at the back.

A good message, though long book
First off, I'm a big fan of Julia Cook. Most of her books are engaging, with a great message. This book however is about five pages too long. The message get lost throughout the book. I paper clipped a few pages together in hopes that this would help, so far so good.

My daughter loves RJ!
My 2.5 year old loves these books! I modify a few words here and there when I am reading to make them more appropriate for her age, but they are great and she really learns from them. THis is our fourth RJ book! When we are in the store or out and about and she is on the verge of a meltdown, I will ask her about RJ and what he would do. It really works!

Strong message, interesting illustrations
I used this book in my classroom to help teach kids that it’s okay to ask for help and to follow directions. I sent it home with several students to have them read with their parents. In fact, it clicked so well that I used it at home with my personal kiddo.I like the lesson that it conveyed and the illustrations were great!
