If you're going to replace your berky black filters, save yourself the aggravation and order these British Berkefeld ceramic filters instead. Check out the one and two star reviews on the berky. Trust me, it's all true. Just returned the second set for the same problems as the first ,purchased very recently. Don't swallow the berky propaganda about heavy water precipitates and the like. All the problems I experienced with the berky completely disappeared when I installed the ceramic filters, no priming, no red dye test, no murky foul tasting and smelling water, no chalk like substance in the bottom tank. Install them, run a couple tanks thru and the result is crystal clear, neutral tasting water. No hassle. I decided to try these particular ceramics as they seemed to keep coming up in reviewers comments. Be asvised I am a devoted berky user, but this latest iteration indicate their filters are complete garbage. I am overwhelmingly happy with the performance of the Ultra Sterasyl ceramic filters made in Great Britain . I may sound like a sales promoter but I must give major kudos to those reviewers the put me on the right tract. With saving $90 a pair I'm now a staunch Royal Berkefeld customer. They are the REAL DEAL !! WOW. just realized that what I recvd should have been the super Sterasyl filters but recvd the Ultrasterasyl instead ! Mystery how this happened, perhaps because the super were out of stock but I AIN'T COMPLAINING. After dealing with the berky travesty I guess maybe I was due a break ! Thank you Doulton !!

I thought I had ordered the longer tips, but the shorter ones came instead. They work, the originals had the longer drain stems. Still getting a newbie taste, but in time that should hopefully go away. I really like the filter system, have had the unit for many years. Thank you for continued availability.AP

Why I ended up buying Doulton instead of Berkey. As most people know Berkey is using incorrect rubber washers to secure the filter to the upper chamber and therefore the taste from the rubber ends up leeching into the final product which is just absolutely gross. They also gouge customers on replacment filters. I stumbled upon these Doulton Super Sterasyl candles as a direct replacement for my Berkey Travel 1.5gal and I am super impressed. Water quality is far superior to Berkey and tastes absolutely fantastic! Not only that, Doulton is NSF certified which Berkey is not. For anyone still interested in Berkey do yourself a favor and buy British Berkefeld instead. Less expensive and a superior product. This ATC Super Sterasyl Ceramic Water Filter has p/n: 8674 on the filter indicating the highest filtration capability, however the flow rate is slower than BB9 filters so its doing a more through job of filtering then a Berkey. Excellent product and highly recommenced for all Berkey gravity filter systems

I had a couple of them put away and when I went to use them one had a crack in it. Check them when they arrive or you will miss the return date like I did

I use these in my British Berkefeld and they work great. I wanted white to be able to see any mineral buildup on them. They do not have any flavor and seal great. I do change them right at 6 months, since I use this drinking filtration system frequently. I have the travel size and only use 2 filters and that seems to work for me and my husband, but I suggest a larger system with 4 filters for a family.
