Great intercom, easy to install

I have been using my Sena SMH10D-11 for a few weeks now and just love it. The sound is clear and the controls are easy to use. I can adjust the volume up or down with my Tourmaster gloves on or even skip ahead or back on songs when I pair my smartphone to it. The battery life seems to be quite good as well. One day I was listening to music while riding and I started to hear beeps go off. I thought '"what's that?" and then thought it might be someone trying to call my phone. So, I said "Hello", and the Sena SMH10 answered. It was my friend calling me. He said he couldn't tell I was riding a motorcycle. The sound quality was very good - using my full-face helmet. I will say that playing music lacks good bass but is still pretty good. You can't expect much from such small speakers. They're not like earplug style speakers. Voice quality (send & receive) is excellent. Installation was pretty easy on my full-face helmet. Just unsnap and pull out the liner panels and run the wires through it, then snap everything back in. Took about a half hour for each helmet. I did have to cut a notch in the plastic edge molding on the helmet next to where I mounted the Sena to make it easy to keep the it's wires close to the edge. The "11" model is the way to go for full-face helmets since you get an additional mic that can be attached just in front of your mouth on the chin guard with the Velcro strip provided. You also receive a boom mic if you need to attach it to a 3/4 or 1/2 helmet.Just a word on Sena's Technical Support folks...(since some reviews have entered negative comments regarding Sena's customer support). I emailed them (Tech Support, not Customer Support) before I made the purchase because I had questions regarding the differences between the SMH10D, SMH10D-10 and SMH10D-11 and also how to interface with the CB radio on my '05 Harley Ultra Classic. I received an email back from Tristan right away and he and I exchanged several emails until I had all of my questions answered. Tristan went above and beyond to help me. So, I'd like to give a little praise where praise is due. I was a bit disappointed to learn I would not be able to talk through the additional SM10 transmitter (in conjunction with the 7-pin DIN connect cord they sell) on my CB, but I could listen to it - and the FM radio as well. I told him it would be great for Sena to add that feature and he said he'd pass it on to their engineering department. So, I'm hoping something happens as a result of that.I ordered the SM10 and interface cable today. So, once I have that installed and working I'll review that as well. Once again, great product - and looks good too!

These are great!

I bought a pair of these a few months ago, and haven't used them with a phone call, but I have used the intercom and other features. This is not something you're going to swap to another helmet frequently. As soon as the box arrives, charge them. Once fully charged, it takes probably 10-15 minutes to get it installed and working well, including test-fitting the helmet to ensure the speakers aren't in a poor location- causing discomfort, or inaudible audio. Mount it all up to the helmet, and then try the helmet on. Make minor speaker placement adjustments, and do it again. it takes two or three times to get it perfect, but then you don't know it's there anymore. I put a small 1-inch square of Velcro on the inside of my helmet and each speaker so once I got it in the right place, it wouldn't migrate later due to gravity or vibration. There is a little bit of a learning curve as you start using it on the road, and then wonder how to change to the next music track, and then get home and look it up, and then go riding and try to remember how to power it off at a stop, and then go home and look it up. Most of it is pretty easy to pick up. It wouldn't be a bad idea to stash the owners guide in the tank bag for the first few rides.I have used this for my GPS on my phone and music on my phone at the same time. I could hear the music up to triple-digit speeds, which really amazed me.Battery life appears to be several (casual) days of riding, I have yet to have it actually go dead, I just charge it after a few days of use. It easily outlasted my Android phone battery, which was only good for about 4 hours of music and GPS. Time to install a tank bag phone charger. I appreciate that it uses the micro-USB charging port rather than inventing their own proprietary plug as so many companies do. This way the same charger fits my phone and this intercom. it's also nice that the unti snaps off and on the helmet so easily. This appears to be well thought out. It's much easier to charge it without bringing the whole helmet to a charger, and it's also great if you usually leave your helmet on your bike. You can unsnap the intercom unit and stick it in your pocket. Charging time appears to be around 4 hours. As recommended on several motorcycle forums, I would suggest you still wear earplugs under your helmet. Earplugs actually decrease the wind noise from the helmet while allowing you to still hear everything else, and it works very well with this arrangement. My girlfriend also enjoyed being able to converse while riding. If your significant other is a chatty kathy, you may not appreciate this quite as much.I am very pleased with this purchase.
