MS1457CBT Model SHIPWAYS 18TH Century Longboat Starter KIT with Tools - 1:48 Scale Wood Plank-on-Frame

This is a very small boat, about the size of a dollar bill or just slightly longer. The instructions are horrible however. They assume a person has knowledge of wood model building therefore skipping additional pictures for comparison. Still, a good boat to start with and lots of fun building it after looking it up on model ship builder site for help.Can't say it's really worth the price however.

Quality products at fair price

The kit overall seems quality. One of the six clamps included broke right off the bat, all the other tools seem like decent quality. My overall biggest critique is that this kit might not be best for a beginner, it is pretty small and detailed. The instructions while pretty thorough use terms that a beginner can not be expected to know--"bearding line", "scarph joint" etc (Google came in handy). If this was truly designed for beginners, maybe a glossary of common terms or labeling these areas on the plan would be helpful. I am setting it aside until I get a little more experience with cheaper kits, maybe try a plank on hull kit before plank on frame and if I do plank on frame maybe something a little larger.

Got this for my husband. He says a great kit but going to be time consuming

The boat is very small. So, it is harder to work on than expected, especially the planking. Much of the hardware you would expect to come with the kit has to be hand made from small brass strips. You are expected to create Iron bands for booms from 1/32" x 1/64" brass strips and then drill holes in them?? There are no length dimensions given anywhere. They must be extrapolated from two sheets of drawings

Comes with terrific tools and paint. Like all such models, the directions are difficult for a beginner.

Came with so much stuff! Cant wait to start building this!
