From the same makers of the first and more recent second editions of the well-designed Minna No Nihongo main textbook series, this book is also a great study supplement for anyone who wants more reinforcement and practice in writing/reading the kanji! It traverses through the important Joyou (standard-use) kanji in its pages, introducing a set of 5-10 kanji at one time to allow you to practice the proper stroke-writing and "on" and "kun" readings. This is then reinforced by reading and writing exercises directly after, which will permit you to explore how the kanji is used in sentences and phrases-- always beneficial to learn as you work to gradually master the kanji reading-writing system of Japanese! Lastly, another great feature of this book is that after a certain set of kanji are covered, you can test yourself on your learning of those kanji with reading and writing test problems interspersed throughout the volume.Overall, a handy book to have with you as you work through writing kanji at a beginner's level. However, please note that you will have to know how to read hiragana at least-- and probably know some common vocabulary-- since romaji nor English is used in the book at all. Also the meanings of the kanji are not covered, which is generally the first step in becoming fluent with kanji. This text may have been intended for native Japanese, but I'm sure it can work well if you know your kana and kanji meanings!
