Good knife, so-so sheath
I JUST received this knife as I am about to depart for a six days camping trip in the Northern Rockies, which will give me ample opportunity to thoroughly test it. Since this is brand new, I am obviously taking another blade with me (Enzo Camper). This said, my first impression of the OT165 is good indeed. It resembles my original 1970s Schrade, it appears to be solid, and it came very sharp out of the box. Of course, the steel on the new one is different from that on the original. I nevertheless fully expect this new knife to be serviceable and long-lasting (provided you do not baton on it with a sequoia!)Much like other reviewers before me, I find the sheath to be rather questionable. The problem is not with the design of it, but with the quality of the "leather" ... it has a definite cardborad like appearance which is confirmed by feeling to the touch, it does not take even the very best of leather conditioners. My advise to the manufacturer would be to charge $5 or $10 more on the purchase price, but to provide a real leather sheath, like those I still have on my original Schrade-Walden US-made blades. As it now stands, the sheath is definitely the weak link ... it also accounts for four instead of five stars.

Excellent quality
This knife came razor sharp, has a great weight and feel in the hand, and is clearly meant to be used. It is a heavy knife and durable, I carried this as my main belt knife this deer season and it did everything I needed it to without worry.Fit and finish is perfect and I expect this will be one of my go to knives for many years to come.Only place they skimped on the quality is with the leather sheath. It is very basic, cheap leather, but it does the job.

165OT EXCELENTE OPCION
UN CUCHILLO QUE CUMPLE CON TODOS SUS OBJETIVOS DE TRABAJO Y EN RELACION AL PRECIO, ES EXCEPCIONAL. VIENE EN ACERO INOXIDABLE 7CR17 DE MUY BUENA CALIDAD, FULLTANG Y CON CACHAS DE MICARTA, ES UN CUCHILLO QUE TE DURARA POR MUCHOS AÑOS AUN DANDOLE TRABAJO PESADO, DE UN TAMAÑO IDEAL PARA CUMPLIR MULTIPLES TAREAS. LO RECOMIENDO AMPLIAMENTE. VIENE AFILADO DECENTEMENTE PERO SI LE FALTA UN POCO, EL AGARRE EXCELENTE Y SE SIENTE UNA HOJA MUY FUERTE. RECOMENDABLE 100% DEACUERDO A SU PRECIO. SOLO LE QUITO UNA ESTRELLA PORQUE LA FUNDA QUE VIENE EN PIEL LE QUEDA UN POCO CHICA Y CUESTA TRABAJO METERLO COMPLETAMENTE YA QUE DE OTRA FORMA EL SUJETADOR CON EL BROCHE NO ALCANZA PARA ASEGURARLO. PERO AUN ASI LO VOLVERÍA A COMPRAR SIN DUDARLO

good weight, overall good quality
Strongly build, good weight, overall good quality. However the edge is a bit asymmetri, but that should be fix through normal use and sharpening. The sheath is really cheap, but since I was buying a knife, not a sheath, I don't mind.

Good knife for the money
Overall nice knife for general purpose outdoors activity. The blade guard is not flush top contour of the handle, which makes it somewhat uncomfortable to the hand.

This is a good buy....
This knife seems as well made as the original I had so long ago.The grind is even and the handle scales are well fitted. The cross guard seems thicker than it needs to be but does not affect the over all balance. The sheath quality is open to question but again...looks like the ones of long ago.For the dollar, this is a good knife.

NOT FULL TANG. Falsely Advertised
When it comes to my tools, I like to know what I'm working with and whether it can be expected to perform the task at hand. My first impressions of this knife were positive:a medium/large skinner, with a thick blade, and a sturdy feel. The geometry of the blade is both functional and aesthetically pleasing; for 25 bucks, it seemed like a sick deal. Here comes the bad news...After one of the brass "caps" on the handle came loose, exposing a star-bit screw head beneath, I decided to remove the handle slabs completely with the intent of making my own out of a nice hardwood. I managed to get one slab mostly off before revealing the ugly "truth" regarding the construction of this knife. (see included pictures)Though the knife is advertised as Full Tang, and also appears to be so from the outside, manufacturing techniques disguise the fact that it is at best 2/3 tang and arguably a "rat-tail" tang at that. The knife's tang ends before the third rivet and is brazed in three places to a "u" shaped piece of metal that provides the outward appearance of a Full Tang knife.Honestly I can see why it was constructed in this manner; as it allows the bolster to remain as one piece and requires less direct human manipulation and man hours working on the product. This becomes a problem however, when it is advertised as something it is not; ie. a hunting knife made of one piece of steel extending to the butt of the handle (which would be the definition of Full Tang)And if you're thinking that maybe the specific advertising of this product can be explained by an honest mishap with Amazon's description of the knife, well no.The manufacturer's website lists it in exactly the same way.No more Schrade/Taylor Made products for this cowboy.

Bad for the bush
This knife is fairly sharp, and it hold an edge and sharpens well. Unfortunately it isn't quite tough enough for tough conditions in the bush. The blade broke off while I was processing kindling, and it popped a rivet within the first two weeks of use. I would recommend against batoning with this blade, and I wouldn't trust it for any situation where you'll be relying on it. Go with a Condor or Morakniv instead, for a little more you get an infinitely better knife.

Nostalgia Purchase
In 1972 my dad passed away and my grandmother went through his belongings and gave me a bunch of his things. This knife was one of them. I managed to hold on to it for 10 or so years, and then somehow it just disappeared. I bought this new one just to remind me of the one I had. It seems like a great knife for the money, seems a little smaller than I remember it being as an 8 year old kid (haha). The old sheath was tan, the new one burgundy, but other than that it's just as I remembered. I was happy when I opened it up!

I see where a customer bought this knife and took ...
I see where a customer bought this knife and took the handle apart, he shows a photo and it showed that the knives is not full tang. Why?
