take it anywhere, the (almost) perfect camera.
I put my name down for one of these back when it was first announced. Took maybe 4 months for delivery.First impressions a well thought out go anywhere camera with a host of bells and whistles. My main selling point was the retro look, feel and operation. You can do everythin the old fashioned way (shutter speed, aperture, iso etc) from dials rather than wading through menus. It feels heavy for a compact but reassuringly so while the overall handling can be a bit fiddly at times it soon becomes 2nd nature. The 40mp CCD gives lovely crisp pictures and helps in a very small way to offset the lack of zoom function. Talking of which there is a menu option for a 70mm digital zoom which can also help. This is my one major gripe with the camera-lack of zoom!If Fuji could have seen fit to put just a little bit of an optical zoom lens then it would be perfect. Portraits do not go well on a wide angle lens and you need a minimum (i would say) of around 100mm to get a more flattereing perspective. The other gripe is lack of filter thread which is a pain in the derriere when you have to hold a polariser or some such in front of the lens.So lack of zoom and no filter thread equals one less star. All that aside its a lovely camera and perfect for oldies like me who grew up and are used to camera with all the controls where you need them. I'm sure Fuji know this and will introduce such improvements on the next iteration to make everyone want to upgrade.
