Klipsch RP8000f SS vs ELAC Debut 2.0 SS

Update:Its 2025 and Dolby Atmos has the potential to last for 10-20 more years from now and it is constantly being updated so investing in Atmos toppers like these is a worthy investment and these Atmos toppers add “vertical immersion” to tower speakers such as the ELAC Debut 2.0 speakers like the pictured F5.2.The ELAC Debut 2.0 series and the Klipsch RP line is for people looking for the best bang for the buck in an affordable mid-tier range. Both sound stages (SS) are nearly equivalent in price so which one is best for you!?The Klipsch Reference Premiere (RP) Line you see on Denon and Marantz product pages have horn tweeters that are the most unique aspect of the Klipsch line of speakers. The horn tweeters have a lot of energy in them that delivers an impressive “vertical immersion” Dolby Atmos experience. However, mid-tier level speakers have Pros and compromises. The ELAC Debut 2.0 line is highly accurate, fully calibrationable, balanced, and neutral. This makes the ELACs great for BOTH music and movies while the Klipsch RP line (and any of their horn tweeter lines) leans more towards being great “cinematic only” speakers due to their high level of immersion (both vertically and horizontally). To be honest the Klipsch RP-8000f tower speakers I owned before changing over to the ELAC Debut 2.0 line doesn’t require atmos toppers like the ELAC F5.2 tower speakers do as the horn tweeters are unbalanced and as a result the horn tweeters put out a great deal of vertical immersion by themselves so that should definitely be a factor when deciding which sound stage to invest in, as Klipsch horn driven Atmos speakers have remained around $500 for a pair and aren’t really necessary. The ELAC Debut F5.2’s do not have vertical immersion due to their balanced design so Atmos speakers are a must for non-horn driven speakers. You can currently buy a pair of ELAC Debut 2.0 F5.2 Tower Speakers for about $560 but you will need to add about $229 for a pair of these Atmos toppers driving the cost up to about $780 if you’re putting together a 5.1.2 system or even a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos setup. The Klipsch RP8000f tower speakers have been on a great sale for a long time now at about $800 for a pair. While the Klipsch towers are less subwoofer dependent and Atmos dependent the matching Klipsch RP center channel is also on sale at around $289 for the Klipsch RP-404C center channel. Plus Audyssey consistently detects this Klipsch RP sound stage to be LARGE Full Range Speakers for about $1,089.The ELAC Debut F5.2 towers, ELAC Debut 2.0 Atmos toppers, and larger ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 center channel I have will currently cost around $1,055. And are detected as SMALL speakers with a 40hz crossover and will greatly benefit from 1 or 2 subwoofers. Luckily I was able to find a pair of REL TX1003 10” protype subs that were less than $300 each and are also geared towards music. So if the ELAC Debut 2.0 Soundstage and the Klipsch RP Soundstage are both around the same price which one should you get, especially if you can’t listen to them before buying them online! Its really a matter of personal preference, if your goal is to have a large and immersive soundstage that lacks accuracy, balance, and neutrality the Klipsch RP line is for you! If you care about listening to music on your system you may prefer the ELAC Debut 2.0 line as it blows the Klipsch RP line away as far as fun and long critical music listening sessions. To be honest the immersive sound stage of the giant Klipsch RP line is great for movies but was rather underwhelming when listening to music via my bluesound node n130 streaming music DAC, on sale for $300 at times.Plus note I owned both of these soundstages for several years and powered both by using a Denon AVR-x4500h with an Emotiva BassX 3 channel amp with about 140 watts per channel driving my sound stage and utilizing a monolith m7100x to drive my effect channels with plenty of power at 90 watts per channel. I do use the AVR to power some additional effect channels as well.I sold my Klipsch RP speakers and decided on the ELACs as I really enjoy listening to music on my setup. I was never able to properly calibrate the Klipsch RPs, even with the upgraded multiEQ-X pc calibration app as by design they are not balanced enough to be calibrated into accuracy. There are times I miss the Full Range Klipsch RP speakers due to their 8” woofers and high level of immersion but I listen to music too much to stick with them which is what made me stick with the ELAC Debut 2.0 line.In addition, the ELAC Debut IC-DT61-W ceiling speakers are far superior to the Klipsch and Polk ceiling speakers. The ELAC ceiling speakers are directional, heavily insulated, and almost sound as good as the kef q150 bookshelf speakers (which sound amazing as I use them as a gold standard to compare non tower speakers to. The ceiling speakers are consistently detected at 90hz crossover while these Atmos toppers are detected at 250hz crossover. The polk and klipsch ceiling speakers are larger in size but lack bass, sound cheap and metallic, and are no fun. You may even consider the ELAC Debut ceiling speakers over the toppers or in addition to as they sound amazing, almost as good as great bookshelf speaker!Sounds better than the polk atmos speaker toppers as its a bigger speaker with a high performance crossover under the hood. I enjoy the ELAC Debut 2.0 system over higher end klipsch, polk, and kef products. As always, ELAC provides pure sound without adding artificial warmth or brightness. It’s very natural sounding so you hear everything as it’s intended to be heard, in a high amount of crisp detail with just enough bass and zero harshness at any level! The Atmos speakers are NOT snake oil speakers! They add a rich dimension to your listening experience!! They fit on top of the ELAC Debut 2.0 F5.2 seamlessly!!UPDATE:I now have the ELAC Debut 2.0 Towers, Center, Atmos, and ceiling speakers and finally get to stop searching for better speakers as these are it! At first I thought they were great for just movies but have found these ELAC Speakers are even better for Music! The search is over! ELAC is the winner!!

Fits perfectly on top of my Fluance XL8F 3-Way Floor standing Loudspeakers!

I purchased these ELAC speakers (30% off) on Amazon and the Sony SSCSE Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers (regular price) at the same time. The ELAC speakers arrived first - basically the next day so I had a lot of time to get used to the sound and make any Height Volume adjustments before the SONY height speakers arrived. When the SONY speakers arrived, I plugged one on the left and left the ELAC on the right. I used the Test Tone feature on my new AVR receiver Sony AN-TA1000 from Amazon to toggle back and forth between them. The sound quality is close, but the ELAC definitely had better sound quality probably owing to the larger driver.Aesthetically the ELAC look much better on top of my Fluance XL8F speakers! They blend in to the overall look of the towers since the width and length are more closely matched. Whereas the SONY height speakers looked "out of place" - like 2 square boxes on the oblong-shaped Fluance speakers. Definitely not aesthetically pleasing.I'm loving the ATMOS content mainly from 4K disks and ATMOS sound available on my 2024 4K Chromecast on the Apple TV app and Prime Video app. My 4K ROKU Ultra from 2 or 3 years ago does NOT have ATMOS streaming content. The ROKU defaults to Dolby Surround instead so I mostly use the 2024 4K Chromecast now.Favorite streaming shows that really highlight the ATMOS height effects: Severance Seasons 1 & 2, Constellation and Prime Target! YouTube Music Premium converts music streams to "360 Spatial Sound" which sounds amazing too!

Nice addons.

These surround speakers are pretty impressive and add a real difference in the sound stage. They blend well with my system and don't stand out unnaturally. Design is a bit pedestrian and the sharp corners are not to my liking. I am somewhat confused by the costs of these small add-on speakers. This is not exclusive to Elac, and likely has something to do with supply and demand.I am using a emotiva surround speaker as well and find they have a more natural and spacial sound.I will keep these and think that the benefits out weight any of the slight negatives.Hope this helps. Do yourself a favor and try the Emotiva brand, very impressive company, from amplifiers to speakers.Cheers
