Heavy duty!

Tired of buying luggage and it getting damaged the first time I use it. This suitcase is worth every penny. I will never have to buy luggage again in my lifetime!

Light, rugged, well engineered, and expensive.

I bought this Pelican Air protective case In order to transport my diving gear. Although I've been diving for years, I only did so infrequently In the past, so I used rental gear. I spent thousands of dollars last year to buy my own equipment. So I want to protect it when I travel. I went to a lot of websites to see what was recommended for safely transporting dive gear, and almost everyone recommended Pelican products, and Pelican Air in particular. This is a well engineered $300+ case. It is relatively light, compared to the competition. I am satisfied that it does the job, although this particular model doesn't really have as much space in it as I was hoping. If I am traveling with a dry suit, I can fit that and maybe one or two items, but that's about it. That's not the fault of this case, just my fault for not buying a larger size. Since I have never bought any of the competitors, although I strongly considered them because they were cheaper, I figured I did not want to scrimp and protect my expensive gear with a cheap box. If you are looking for something rugged, relatively lighter in weight, and easy to use, and you don't mind paying a premium price, this is probably the case for you. Since I never tried any of the competitors, I can't swear that you couldn't find another case with similar performance, though I don't think that you can find a rigid case of this quality that is as light. This is a significant consideration for traveling with gear that is already heavy, since you don't want to pay extra by exceeding the 50 lb limit for most airlines. I guess that's why they added the "Air". I specifically ordered it without any foam padding, because I needed the space, but I'm sure you would want such a thing for many applications, such as delicate equipment or firearms. I'm giving it four stars, rather than five, just because it was so darned expensive.

Slide Out Handle slid all the way out of case.

First of all, I have a Pelican case, so I love their product. BUT when I took my new 1595 Air Case out and slid out the roller handle, it not only slid up but entirely out of the case. I slid it back into the track and tried again, but it slid all the way out of the case again. I tried a couple more times, and it did stop a few times in the appropriate manner, but it slid out more times than not...way more. This gives me very little confidence that it will work correctly when I travel. I looked online for a remedy but cannot find anyone else posting about this issue or how to fix. I called the Pelican Warranty number (3100326-4700) but their automated system left me baffled on how I contact them about my issue. Really disappointed in the compromised case and their phone customer service. Like I said, I love their cases, but this one has really let me down. I might try to see if i can jig up some kind of MacGyver-type of stop myself, but I am not sure what is going to work.
