XL for standard poodleS for miniature poodleWe just began giving our dogs collagen chews for dental reasons. The first two times our standard Poodle got to the end of the bone he gobbled and swallowed it whole, then began to whimper. 🤯🙁 The first time we thought it was a fluke but when he did it again we decided no more bones until we figure something out. When we learned about this device it was a no brainer! Not only does this lessen the chance of him gobbling down the end piece I believe it has taught him how to chew… I know that sounds funny but it’s as though he understands what to do now, chew! We’ve tried two bones. The large braided collagen chew (about 12”, first pic) and put it through the device so it sticks out on both ends. We put the small standard collagen chew (about 7”, second pic) in it so it sticks out only on one end.In the case of small chew, when he gets to the end he’s basically able to yank it out. To be fair, he’s a strong boy (currently 93 lbs). I remained calm and observed him. He kept chewing. Looked like a giant glob of bubblegum as he was chewing it around in his mouth. While he eventually swallowed it, he had gotten it soft/smushed enough so that there were no issues, no whimpering. As the device states, this is not a chew toy. So you have to take it away when your dogs are done the bone. When our standard was trying to get to the little piece left, he turned the device and started biting it lol as if he was going to get to that piece in some way! He did cause bite marks in it but I don’t think it ruined it or posed any threat. If your dog chews on the device itself it’ll create little dents/ridges in the plastic that’s may be sharp-ish. Because we were supervising we were able to stop him and take it from him. But just something to consider. *If overtime he puts sharp nicks in it, I’ll toss and buy another one. It’s worth it. I cannot see this being an issue for smaller dogs as the device is pretty solid. The last pic is of our miniature poodle, we give him the small collagen bones mentioned above. One bone lasts two days. Once he gets down to the little piece lodged in the middle of the device he’s pretty much tired and walks away.I do recommend this device. But as the company acknowledges, it does not replace supervision.

Is my dog THAT strong?
First, I’d like to state that I got the XL size, new model. I’m not sure if I got a defective product or if my dog is just the strongest dog ever? He pulls the bully stick out of the holder with minimum effort in about 30 seconds. My dog loves his “t” shaped nylabone so I know he knows how to chew things that shaped (paws holding while chewing).I thought initially that we hadn’t tightened the moving piece enough but I had my husband try as well and I can still easily pull the stick out. I also tried removing the screw piece completely and reinstalling it, no improvement. The end of the screw piece is just a flat circle and there is no texture or teeth inside the holder to create any friction to hold the sticks better.I was really excited for this product as my dog is a monster and will try to eat the last 2-3 inches of the stick if we don’t watch him but we will have to keep looking for different solutions. Very disappointed, returning.

Updated to 3 stars. Great concept, design failure
UPDATE: Customer service is very responsive. I was using a different brand of bully stick so that may explain the fit issue. I was offered a sample of their suggested Bully stick. Because I have scratched knuckles and need pliers to lose it, I will give it 3 stars but won't be using it.Original review: Great concept, design failure. The knob to tighten is low and I have cut my knuckles trying to tighten it. The best option ended up being pliers. It doesn't screw down tight enough to hold a stick regardless of the size. It is great when it works but the odds of that aren't good. I purchased the XL, so I spent a lot of money for something that is useless. I could never recommend this.

Very large and may be too cumbersome
Serve the purpose of holding yaks or long bully sticks. Rather large and bulky

Don't Buy Blue Version If Concerned About Bone Size
Don't buy the older blue version if you're concerned about being able to use larger rawhide bones. I didn't find any website explanation of the difference between the older and newer version other than color. The old blue version will not accommodate as large of a bone as the newer, orange version. I think the newer, orange version is able to hold the bone in place better than the original, blue version. Other than that, my dogs love the device as it allows them to chew on the bones, easier, and it protects them. The cost of these things, though, is outrageous! But we bought two because we don't want our dogs choking... which one almost did. And we don't want to stop giving them rawhide bones as it helps keep their teeth clean.

New design not as safe
changing from the point to the flat top on the inside screw that holds the bully stick in place was a bad decision because out of the 5 bully sticks i have given my dog he has gotten all five of them out because the flat head does not hold the stick tight enough!! i want to return it to the manufacturer and ask him to send me the old design as my dog has choked on the last two large pieces of bully sticks! so now i cannot give him anymore unless i buy a different brand

Great for those bigger chews
I bought this after my old one wasn't big enough to fit the larger chews. This one works great and is substantial enough where my aggressive chewer - a 110lb rottie hasn't damaged it so far! Highly recommend!

They ruined the original model
What's the purpose of this toy? To ensure that your dumb, adorable dog does not swallow a huge chunk of bully stick. The original version did that successfully. We used that toy for forever. Hundreds of billy sticks. It had a little screw-in spike and teeth to held the bully stick in place.I have no idea why, but the "new" version is useless. The removed the gripping teeth and blunted the twist screw-in spike to be flat.We lost her original bow wow in the park and replaced it with this absolute hazard. She has successfully pulled three bully sticks from it and swallowed them whole, only to Vomit them up immediately. This NEVER happened before. We threw out this trash and found the original version on ebay. Don't buy this version. Try and find the original somewhere. They ruined it.
