Bird-X BG Balcony Guard

We have been troubled by House Martins nesting in our open garage; I had already tried steel netting on the purlin and so was pretty desperate.The item looks like something made up at home from bits bought at Radio Shack. I wish I had seen the research that suggested that birds are troubled by ultra-sonic noise, as my friends must be deaf. If it works at all then, if you can hear the sound, perhaps maybe some birds can also.You twiddle a knob at the back until it is at its loudest. Being an enclosed space you might expect this product to work better. The IR detector can see me approaching pretty easily but while set in this mode, every bird in the neighbourhood seemed to visit, presumably without triggering, so it is now set permanently on. This means that we have now only the odd 6-8 birds messing up the cars.Over time the pitch of the noise changes so it needs to be adjusted frequently. If it were £20, it might be worth a punt; at this price it is just too expensive to try.As a back-up plan, I also bought a large decoy Falcon; that is not effective either.Perhaps birds are just not as dumb as we humans are gullible.

We have bought the Balcony Guard product as we face continuous problems with birds messing up our balcony. I think it pretty expensive for the effect it has. First of all it is not silent device and each activation of movement sensor is linked to the high pitched sound. Most importantly birds don't seem to mind at all. Considering cost and import taxes we had to pay upon delivery (welcome to Switzerland!) I see it as a complete waste of money.

Came with a non UK AC adapter, which wasn't obvious when I placed the order. Now I have to buy a suiatble adapter - hope it's working ok when I can connect it

Working very well so far, what a relief.

We have a relatively small but walled Garden which we have recently re-seeded. We purchased this product to deter the birds (sparrows in the main and occasionally small pigeons) from eating the seed. We have, as per the instructions, tried various combinations of sensitivity and frequency, but to no avail.> The sensor reacts to human movement but does not seem to detect any bird; it also needs to be positioned at the height of the birds, so we have had to position it at ground level.> When it is set off (by your movement) in the presence of the birds, it has no effect; it can be heard by humans if set at the lower frequency range, but despite the warnings (in the instructions) isn't that loud when we tested this. It cannot be heard by humans if set to the upper frequency range.Overall it promises much, but unfortunately delivers nothing. Particularly disappointing cost-wise as it isn't cheap and I also now have to re-seed my lawn for a second time, using physical (netting) and visual (reflective tape) deterrents.
