Thought provoking

Priestly was fascinated by the subject of time, and that is the theme of the plays included here - and do note that they are written as plays rather than novels, so have stage directions and other features novels lack. The most famous is, deservedly, "An Inspector Calls", which was made into a film with the incomparable Alistair Sim as the eponymous policeman. All go into the intriguing subject of what people might do differently if they could have their time over again, and are definitely thought-provoking.

Brilliantly clever play which stands the test of time.

I'm rereading all the books I've loved from my school days at the moment. This book is still studied in schools I think and I'm not surprised as there's so much discussion to come from it. A lot of questions you can ask yourself, about yourself and how you treat others. It's very apt in this modern day too which is why I think it's stood the test of time.An inspector arrives unannounced at a society house. A girl has committed suicide and he talks to the family one by one, but in the same claustrophobic room, to find out what happened to her and why. Oh when the story unravels and we see how each member of the family have secrets about this girl to spill, then this is like watching lambs to the slaughter. It will also make you think about yourself and how you interact in the world. Every action has consequences - seeing these characters interactions crash into each other, smack them in the face and then pull the rug from under the only one standing, it's delicious to see. That ending! I still remember how thrilled I was to write about this in my GSCE exam. I could waffle on about this for ages (which was good then as it got my word count up hehe)Recommended - (book, stage play, two TV adaptations) I've read and seen them all.

Very frustrating

Firstly I was very disappointed at the price of this book - I suspect capitalising on the fact that it is a GCSE text as there is a captive market for it.This particular version has no notes whatsoever to help - not that I esentially needed them, but if this were being purchased by a student they should bear that in mind.I decided to take advantage of the offer of free Prime delivery for a month so signed up for it. I needed this book also asap as it is a text I am teaching a home tutored pupil and schools don't have the resources usually to supply a home tutor a text. I then waited ....and waited.... chased it on the "online tracking". This facility told me it had been despatched....arrived at Edinburgh - am not sure why there, and from there it was bouncing back. Eventually after emails to Amazon and phone calls (fruitless) to the shipper I decided to reorder the book. The reorder came as promised and beat the original order by a couple of days! All in all though this all took a week and meant I was reading and preparing for 4 hours well into the night to prepare for my pupil who had by this time missed a couple of lessons! I have to say the shipper blaming Amazon and more or less washing their hands of it did not go down well.

A classic read.

Seen the two TV adaptations. The original film and have the play on audio CD. But I have to say reading the book adds a depth I wasn`t expecting. Rich in language and prose a real treat to read. They just don`t write them like this anymore.

Love this play!

Son not enjoying it as much as I did! Though he sees parallels with the Saw movies, so perhaps there is a gcse hiding in there somewhere.
