Excellent But A Little Pricey

I replaced a set of Elac UB51’s with these. I am older and needed more mids and highs for better dialog understanding. I was going to buy the UC52’s (Unify 2.0), but I found a really good open box price for these at about $100 more. These are really good. More detail and slight boost in treble compared to the UB51’s. So much better for dialog, but for music too. My only concern is the list price. Not sure about $1200. They are currently on sale for $899, which seems about right. Don’t think I would go higher than that. There are too many other good speakers in the $1000 range.

A step up from the B&W DM602's

The Elac speakers are installed in a bedroom and sound excellent even when powered by a new Yamaha A/V receiver. The first impression is their crisp sound detail coming from rather small boxes. They are on metal speaker stands that puts them at ear level when sitting in an easy chair. The only room for improvement would be the addition of a small powered subwoofer. Given the room size and speaker placement, a small (8 or 10 inch) cube would make this an almost perfect system. The Elac's seem to provide precise highs and mid tones and a subwoofer would fill out what's missing on the low end. In fact, there seems no point in speaker towers when these bookshelf units perform as well as they do.

These are great

The Elac have great detail and spacious imaging and very decent bass response for the price point. I have Triangle and Definitive Tech stand mounts speakers too but the Elac out preform both. The not so handsome cabinets are the only down side. Had Elac went with wood grain it would be a 5 in all categories.

Love it. My reference speaker at it's price range.

I have the original UB5, heard the UB5.2 at my friends. Decided to upgrade to this, and I am not disappointed.

Doesn't sound great.

I've owned speakers from 800 to 8k, and have heard many more. There are quite nice sounding ones I've heard under 500, for example. These however just don't sound good. A thin, lackluster, 'dusty' sound lacking warmth, that you don't want to listen to anymore after 20 minutes.

Quality sound!

Solid build cabinet with great bracing. Very nice imagining and spacious soundstage, Neutral sounding with nice bass.

Vinyl veneer, but otherwise a winner

How so much low bass comes from such a small bookshelf is a pretty impressive feat. I don't think they would make the hardcore hip-hop listener happy without a sub, but still - the bass response is impressive for such a small package. I don't have these properly on stands of the right height yet, but even so, the listening sweet spot is quite wide and immersive. Great speakers at a decent value. Just wish they had used real veneer on a 'reference' quality unit. Eventually, I will heat strip the vinyl off of mine (probably after the 5 year warranty is up) and to ebony or zebrano on the boxes. Fronts look amazing, really like the grey 'tweed-like' magnetic grilles too - nice modern look with the rounded corners and slightly curved front baffle. These totally blow away my previous bookshelf speakers - Focal Chorus 806's. NO COMPARISON at all - those Focals could barely move enough air at low frequencies to be able to hear any bass. Slight exaggeration there, but hopefully you get the idea. These Elac's are nice speakers. I will have these for a good long while.Equipment used:Luxman PD-444 with Jelco tonearm and Supex 900 Super -> Luxman stepup transformer -> McIntosh C24 preamp -> Harman Kardon Citation II -> Elac UBR62

Great - I have 2 pairs for 2 different amps.

Great speakers with excellent imaging.I have one pair connected to a Willsenton R8 Tube amp.The other pair (picked up new -open box from online auction site) is connected to the $70 AIYIMA A07. Sounds absolutely wonderful.Additionally, regarding A07, I sent back the Marantz Model 30 and kept the A07!
