You definitely can but bagged tea specifically made to skip the pot and brew your tea in your mug

i'm not sure about manufacturing but it's a good quality tea pot. I use it every day for almost a year and I love it !!!

Q: Has anyone actually used this in a microwave? Is it really "microwave safe"?

No I have nor tried it. I think its too fragile for microwave or dishwasher
