DSLRKIT DC 5V 2.4A Active PoE Splitter (802.3af) for Hue Bridge

I recently picked up the DSLRKIT DC 5V 2.4A Active PoE Splitter (802.3af) to power my Philips Hue Bridge (Hue hub) via Power over Ethernet instead of using a separate power adapter. After a straightforward setup, it’s proven to be an incredibly handy addition to my smart home setup.Key BenefitsSingle-Cable ConvenienceBy using this splitter, I can now run both data and power over a single Ethernet cable from my PoE switch to the Hue Bridge. This cuts down on clutter and frees up a wall outlet.Sufficient Power OutputThe splitter delivers a steady 5V at up to 2.4A, which comfortably meets the power requirements of the Hue Bridge (2A is typically recommended). I’ve experienced no dropouts, restarts, or connection issues since making the switch.802.3af CompliantSince it’s 802.3af compliant, it works seamlessly with standard PoE switches. There’s no fuss with proprietary adapters—just plug it into a PoE-capable port, and the splitter handles the rest.Straightforward InstallationEthernet In: Connect the splitter to a PoE-enabled Ethernet port on your switch.Ethernet Out: Run a short Ethernet cable from the splitter to the Hue Bridge’s network port.Barrel Plug Out: The 5.5x2.1 mm barrel connector goes into the Hue Bridge’s power input. After plugging everything in, the Hue Bridge powered on immediately and maintained a solid network connection.Compact DesignThe splitter’s small form factor makes it easy to tuck away behind a cabinet or entertainment center. It doesn’t generate much heat, and there’s a small indicator LED that confirms it’s receiving power.PerformanceStable Power: After several weeks of use, I haven’t experienced any flickering LEDs or dropped connections with my Hue lights. The Bridge stays powered 24/7 without a hitch. No Noticeable Latency: Moving power management off to the PoE splitter hasn’t added any lag or reduced responsiveness in the Hue app—everything remains snappy.ConsiderationsPoE Switch or Injector Required: You’ll need an 802.3af-compliant PoE switch or injector. If you don’t already have PoE in your network setup, that’s an additional cost to factor in.Cable Management: While it does reduce a power brick in your setup, you’ll still have a small splitter and some short cables to deal with. Overall, though, it’s still more streamlined than using a separate AC adapter.Pros & ConsProsFrees up a wall outlet by combining power and data into one cable.Delivers ample power (5V/2.4A) for the Philips Hue Bridge.Easy plug-and-play installation with a PoE switch.Compact and runs cool.ConsRequires 802.3af PoE source (additional hardware if not already present). You’ll still have a small box (the splitter) in your wiring path.Final VerdictThe DSLRKIT DC 5V 2.4A Active PoE Splitter is a great solution if you want to power your Philips Hue Bridge via Power over Ethernet. It simplifies cable management, delivers reliable power, and reduces the need for an extra power adapter. If you already have a PoE-capable setup (or plan to add one), this splitter is a worthwhile upgrade to keep your smart home hub neatly integrated and always powered.

Great for the things I've used it for

Originally ordered this to POE enable the Hue Hubs in my house. With a barrel plug adapter, these have worked perfectly. They worked so well, I looked at some other devices on my network and found that it should also work for my Airthings Hub....and it worked just as well as it did for the Hue Hub (again requiring the barrel adapter). While I can't speak to the longevity, it's nice to find reasonably priced products that just work exactly as they should. Highly recommended.

Works with Philip Hue Bridge and SmartThings Hub

Works as advertised. I purchased two of them for my IoT hub devices to eliminate the need for power bricks. Totally unessiary, but it does clean up the wires for all of the power needs.Perfectly powers the Samsung SmartThings Hub (Aeotech) and Philips Hue hub.

Great for Hue Hubs

Works great for devices you need to put in remote places, like positioning a smart home bridge or hub in a specific location, without running both power AND data.

Works with Philips Hue Hub (with adapter)

I had to purchase an adapter separately (5.5x2.1mm female to 5.5x2.5mm male) to fit in the Hue hub power port. With that, the splitter powers it perfectly from my Ubiquiti PoE switch.

Good but a little bulky

It works I just wish it was somehow less bulky. There must be a way for them to make the box with the ethernet jack smaller.
