This lock is secure, has a number of nice operating features, and most importantly is reliable
Excellent high quality lock system. I recognize there are many lock systems for sale with more electronic features, but here is the issue, most of the fancy feature locks that sell for less $250 to $300. are just not reliable, especially long term. This is a product area where you get what you pay for. So the solution: Either pay $300 or alternately buy a great lock that has fewer features, but instead is very reliable, built extremely well, uses "unlock" technology that simply unlocks the door but does not try to mechanically pull the latch bolt; this feature alone will substantially extend battery life and reduce mechanical complexity and door alignment issues. All this translates to a low cost, highly reliable, mechanically simple lock "that works" every time, all the time. On top of all the simplicity, the Kwikset re-key technology allows the user to re-key the lock to match current keys, so key changes are not necessary unless the user so desires. If there is a downside to this lock, it is that the installation documentation is lacking in explanations in a few areas, which can lead to a bit of confusion, if the user does not properly check out the assembly process ahead of time. In my case, I identified and tested components assembly a head of time, which did help to resolve ambiguities in the assembly instructions. In fact, I also fully programmed the lock system and re-keyed the system before installing it on the door, which made the installation process a straightforward 7 or 8 minutes maximum, without anyone else holding the lock during installation. I would recommend either a second set of hands to assist holding the outside lock segment, or devising a way to hold the lock segment in place during installation. I just placed a protective heavy paper over the outside lock segment to protect it, then used a strip of gaffers tape to hold the outside segment to the door while I installed the inside segment and screwed it all together. As I said, the entire process took about 7 or 8 minutes and the lock was installed and performing as expected. The lock is secure, has a number of nice operating features, costs less than $80.00, and most importantly is reliable. I would highly recommend this lock system.

Smart Key and Smart Code are great tools
The Smart Key feature is a tremendous tool. I replaced every door lever in our home, every deadbolt, as well as adding 4 keypad locks. I was able to re-key every lock to my preferences, easy, smooth. It is secure and does not increase possibility of others to gain entry or change any keys. Reduces the need for multiple keys or having to call a locksmith. Most locksmiths are trusty but not all. The Smart Code keypads allow giving a code to someone who needs temporary access and can be easily deleted after their need is over.

Caution advised on Amazon used locks...
On my second Amazon "like new" Kwikset Smartcode 917 smartkey lock. First was defective and included various Schlage parts with it. Returned and tried again. Second lock works great, but no key in the box. Spent some time watching a couple videos and successfully got it re-keyed, so I can avoid the return hassle. The locks overall have been great, have 4 of them. Just be cautious on the less expensive used locks on Amazon. I've had both good and bad experiences.

A great key pad!
We installed this today to replace our old Kwik-Set 911 keypad that gave us 10 full years of trouble-free service (before it died). Per Kwik-Set, this new 917 model is the replacement for the 911, which is by now of course discontinued. This new one is GREAT! We love it. We were able to get the same color, so it matches our (old) deadbolt exactly, and it fits perfectly (inside and outside) where the 911 had been.It is lovely, and has a few new features which are definite improvements. The battery pack used to be quite cumbersome to get to - but no more. They have revamped that part, plus it uses one 9V instead of 4 AAs.The handle inside doesn't have a "lock" and some reviewers mentioned that. It's a non issue, IMO. There is a small lever above the handle and when it's horizontal, the door is unlocked. When it's vertical, the door is locked. Same idea as the old 911 model, only there it was a button on the handle. The unit appears to be very well made and was easy to install. We are very happy with it. Thank you, Kwik-Set and Amazon.

IT WORKS 💪
As with all products, I always make sure it works before installing 🤔. Assembly only the parts needed for operation, programed code and success!Lock feels heavy and solid, I'm pleased with this product.Nicely engineered 👍 !Thanks guys..,UPDATE: 1 week after buying & posting this product, they placed it on sale ! 30 BUCKS CHEAPER !So never NEVER🚫 buy anything from Amazon unless it's extremely discounted 🚫

Great design and more compact than the last one
I’m a fan. All my locks are Kwikset. This one unlocks and locks super fast too. Installation was a breeze, along with the programming of codes. I love that it automatically locks when the lever is in the up position. Felt like I was the only one in the house who ever remembered to lock the last one!

Poor quality
Worked for a short time, but now it won’t lock. I’ve tried factory reset, moving that switch on the back, turning on and off the auto lock feature, changing batteries, reducing time to auto lock, changing codes, Even the key won’t let me lock it.
