FAST!

I bought 2 of these. I use one in an old Dell D620 I made from scrap parts that's been running for 15 years, and another for terminal experiments with Linux Mint. The one in the Dell is dual boot for Windows 7 I use for service calls. It has sped the old laptop up incredibly. I also installed Linux Mint for everyday use.The other one is for creating custom Linux Mint installable ISOs for flash drives for portable or desktop systems. At the price I paid, the speed is great. I've been pounding the daylights out of the Linux drive for weeks. Boot time is fantastic.Since I didn't need a lot of storage for my use 240G served my purposes. I generally shy away from SSDs because they degrade over time depending on the amount of writes and deletions, so in my applications of low disk rewrites they should serve me for a long time.I went with Crucial because of their long history in the memory business. About 8 years ago I specified a Crucial 320G SSD for a friend who wanted to build a new system for his recording studio. At that time it was $340. We mounted the Windows OS on the SSD, but data storage is on a standard HDD mirrored RAID. The state of the art has had quantum leaps since then, but the system is still running strong after 2 Windows upgrades. Since the system allowed, we also installed a 64G Crucial SSD for a cache drive. Considering a cache drive handles a lot of rewrites should bear witness to Crucial products.I have never been disappointed by a Crucial memory product. I still have systems from the early 2000's running as they should.

Great SSD, reliable company

My wife has an HP laptop that's been running slower and slower. After replacing her HDD with this SSD, it's now very fast again. I'm sure there's more I need to look at to debloat and optimize Win11 on her laptop, but this alone has taken the heat off and now I can take some time to work on other issues. One problem I was facing and didn't know it until I tried to clone her old drive onto the new SSD is that her old hdd was actually getting a ton of disk errors, do bad that cloning failed... Fortunately I had an image backup from her old drive and was able to restore it flawlessly to the new ssd with Acronis True Image. BTW, Crucial SSDs come with a free version of Acronis tailored for Crucial, one of my favorite tools. I do partition image backups often, mainly to recover from my own blunders and to repair virus infections.

Dramatic Speed Boost for My Aging Laptop

I recently upgraded my aging laptop with the Crucial BX500 1TB SSD, and the difference in performance has been nothing short of transformative. This SSD dramatically increased the speed of my laptop, making it feel faster than when it was brand new.Key Highlights:Performance Boost: The SSD delivers up to 540MB/s read speeds, which has drastically improved boot times and overall system responsiveness. My laptop now boots up in seconds, and applications load almost instantly.Ease of Installation: The installation process was straightforward, even for someone without much technical expertise. It was essentially plug-and-play, requiring only a quick format before use.Energy Efficiency: The drive is remarkably energy-efficient, consuming far less power than traditional hard drives. This has noticeably improved my laptop's battery life.Reliability: Crucial's reputation for quality shines through. The drive has been stable and dependable since installation, with no issues encountered.Value for Money:Priced at $59.99 (as of this review), the BX500 offers exceptional value for its performance and capacity. It’s an affordable way to breathe new life into older devices without breaking the bank.Final Thoughts:Whether you're upgrading an old laptop or desktop, the Crucial BX500 is an excellent choice. Its combination of speed, reliability, and affordability makes it a standout product for anyone looking to enhance their system's performance.I highly recommend this SSD for anyone seeking a budget-friendly upgrade that delivers noticeable improvements in speed and efficiency!

Dead On Arrival review revised

Original problem was the laptop could not find the new SSD internal hardware after replacement. After more trouble shooting, ( it has been awhile since I installed an OS on a bare hardware).Hardware does not come with any partition table as shipped. (SSD).I needed to use an open software program “Gparted”.I then added a partition table to make the drive visible. After that it is straightforward to format the drive, and then install Operating System.Gparted is a program for interrogating a hard drive or SSD or thumb drive. Gparted is available in Linux and there is a Windows version for free on the internet. An Apple version I am not sure about.New 1TB drive is up and running. System is a 2016 Dell laptop. New battery, another 8 GB ram stick , and the new internal drive. Fresh Linux runs just like new.Hardware will not support Windows 11.

Great value

Works great! I replaced the optical drive on my Dell Optiplex 7020 with a SSD drive SATA conversion cage (several versions available for $7-$9) and this Crucial 1 Tb SSD drive. You can either copy an image of your boot C: drive (see instructions) or just keep your boot drive and add this Crucial drive for more storage, which is what I did. Windows wiil see the drive initially, but you need to "Enable" the drive to read/write to it and assign it a letter (I used "D:") See Windows Help for Enable Drive.

Great budget friendly backup storage drive

Great budget friendly backup storage drive. Works great as a backup drive, but wouldn't recommend as a primary. Purchased to backup my phones storage and offload old footage from one of my other drives that was getting full. The drive has poor endurance and doesn't not like large file transfers or long write times. Copying ~900GB of data to it took over an hour.
