My best shaving experience
I’m a 35-year-old Indian man, and I’ve been shaving since I was 16—mostly with a single-blade safety razor. Like many, I received no real guidance on how to shave properly growing up. No uncles with advice, no barbers dishing out tips. Just trial, error, and plenty of razor burn. Over time, this led to some poor technique, especially around the chin—where my beard grows thick, coarse, and stubborn. In my journey, I’ve experimented with a range of blades and found the 7 O’Clock Super Platinum to be my gold standard. But even with that, the chin remained a battleground. That’s when Reddit’s grooming nerds (God bless them) introduced me to the idea of a pre-shave softener.Enter this pre-shave cream—without exaggeration, it’s been a game changer. It softens the beard, especially the tougher areas, and transforms the shaving process. The razor glides smoothly, reducing tug and irritation. Most notably, the shave stays close and clean for a solid two days, something I never achieved with just a blade and shaving cream combo. My current setup:• Pre-shave conditioner: This product (the MVP)• Shaving gel: Nivea• Blade: 7 O’Clock Super Platinum• Razor: A 10-year-old Gillette plastic safety razor (brand long forgotten, but still going strong)If you’re struggling with coarse hair or sensitive areas—particularly around the chin—this pre-shave cream is worth every rupee. Sometimes, it’s not just about sharper blades or fancier razors. It’s about prepping the canvas right.

pretty incredible
During the pandemic I was looking for ways to cut costs, and one area was buying sub-optimal shaving products (like Barbasol shave cream). Now that I'm back in the proverbial saddle I'm once again investing in getting a better shave, even bringing my shaving brush out of retirement. That said, I first tried shaving oils and although they lubricate they are messy and kinda sticky. This Proraso pre-shave is at least 8 times better than shave oil. I can take a small blueberry-sized amount, lather it up a bit in my hands, and cover my whole facial-beard region. And the shave - oh - with a good cream applied with a brush - mwah nothing better!Highly recommended, this is the best pre-shave I've ever used, and you should try it too (unless you're on a tight budget).

A new way to shave
I recently made the decision to leave behind this "new" way to shave with Edge gel and Mach 3's (Fusions actually were not as good for me) partially due to the price of the blades, but a large part of me is wanting to do things the "old" way. Regarding the price of fancy blades I'm doing something that seems to be faux pas now and exercising my choice as a consumer in a "free market" and telling Gillette to "get bent." I'm not buying their $2.00 blades anymore (Costco price). I'm trying both a double edge safety razor and a straight edge. Well, after the first shave with some shaving soap I thought would be great, it wasn't fun. Came to the conclusion that shaving soaps may not be the way to go. I live in an arid environment; very dry here. My water is extremely hard and I don't use a softener. And my beard is genetic from my Syrian heritage (very dense). So, ordered up some Proraso Pre-Shave Cream and some of their Shave Cream in a tube. After the first use I've decided that these products are what I should be using now. My only gripe about this product (4 stars, not 5) is the amount for the price. It's a pretty small jar. However, I think you can use it sparingly and get the right effect.I apply this to my beard and spread it around evenly. About a two lightly coated fingertips seems to be enough. I then use the time it needs to soak in and soften the beard to whip up my lather, which takes about 2 minutes. The Proraso shave cream goes a long ways too, about the size of an almond is all it takes to get enough lather for a 3 pass shave if needed. The cooling sensation from the menthol is nice and makes the shave go easier for me.I did use this for some post shave as well. It helped, but not sure it's the effect I'm going for. I think I'd like to try some other stuff as well so I just ordered another Proraso aftershave product to try out.Part of me misses the speediness that I could shave with Edge Gel and Mach 3, but I'm enjoying this new ritual of doing things the old fashioned way and saving money on blades. In my current job I need to shave more often. At the very least every other day. In my previous job I shaved whenever I wanted, which was 4 to 6 days of growth usually.I say try this product out, and the others by this company as well. I think you'll like them. I'll definitely be re-ordering. Definitely since the seller is fulfilling through Amazon so I can use my Prime membership to get them quick.

Proraso Pre-shave Cream is now a permanent addition to my morning routine
I used Proraso products, i.e., shaving cream, soap, brush, and aftershave, for many years. I have been shaving for nearly 60 years and am very satisfied with my morning shave routine, which is a hot wash cloth, a facial soap, lather, and a double edge razor. I felt no need to use the pre-shave cream, but I finally decided to give it a try. After washing my face, I rubbed in the pre-shave cream. I am very pleasantly surprised. My blade glides over my skin. The Pre-shave definitely helps with shaving some of those hard to reach pockets under your chin and above your throat. The Proraso Pre-shave cream is now a permanent addition to my shaving routine.
